Job Title: Credit Analyst; U.S. Public Finance – Local Government

The firm’s client base includes banks, corporations, insurance companies, charitable organizations, endowments, advisors, and high net worth individuals. In total, the firm has over $1.8 billion in assets under advisement.

Position Summary:

BSI/BAM is seeking Credit Analyst for the firm’s Municipal Credit Department. Th focus on municipal credit analysis working directly with firm management, portfolio management, trading, and public finance on all topics related to municipal credit as well as related areas of municipal underwriting and our due diligence process.

This is a junior position but with expectations for upward mobility. Progression will be available to those who show strong interest in the municipal sector and the ability to take on additional roles and responsibilities within the department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support department manager on surveillance and preparation of credit committee presentations & written analyses
  • Enter credit information into and maintain municipal credit database; aggregate other relevant information
  • Analyze credit quality of individual municipal issuers (primary and secondary market)
  • Duties for primary market transactions include conducting credit analysis on the transaction; reviewing and commenting on preliminary offering documents; participating in due diligence conference calls; reviewing an issuer’s history of compliance with outstanding continuing disclosure undertakings; presenting credit analysis and any other materials for presentation to the firm’s Credit Committee in a timely manner
  • Responsible for analysis and commentary delivered to the firm’s Credit Committee regarding credit trends within the municipal market that may affect existing positions or future transactions, individual issuer or sector credit analysis, and any other relevant municipal credit materials in a timely manner

Education and Skills:

  • Candidate should possess bachelor’s degree, preferably with a concentration in finance, accounting, mathematics, economics, government/public policy, or related field
  • Two years of relevant work experience in financial services, government, or another relevant analysis-focused field.
  • Candidate ideally should have some experience analyzing the credit quality of municipal issuers including cities, counties, school districts and special districts and both general obligation and utility system revenue bonds.
  • A demonstrated interest in municipal finance and local governments
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact confidently with clients
  • Solid analytical skills and superior attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work well both independently and as part a team
  • Ability to be highly organized, detail-oriented, and juggle multiple priorities at once

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Familiarity with CreditScope software applications is preferred but not required
  • Bloomberg workstation experience, is preferred but not required
